Turning used cooking oil into soap in a country where deep-fried foods rule
Hugo Daniel Chávez, a young entrepreneur in Honduras, has turned the country's used cooking oil into eco-friendly soap through his project with NGO Sustenta Honduras. Their initiative aims to tackle health and environmental hazards associated with improper disposal of cooking oil, offering businesses an incentive to recycle it into useful products like soap and dog food. Recognized internationally for their innovative approach, Sustenta buys used cooking oil from businesses and recently signed a contract with Walmart to scale up production, highlighting the economic value of a circular economy.
