Government borrowing lower than expected in July

UK government borrowing in July was £1.1 billion, lower than expected, due to increased tax and National Insurance receipts. This decrease was attributed to tax rises implemented in April. The Office for National Statistics reported that this was the lowest July figure in three years. Despite this, borrowing over the first four months of the financial year reached £60 billion, up £6.7 billion from the previous year.
