New research from Rwanda suggests that female mountain gorillas maintain important social relationships for many years, even seeking out and joining old female friends when changing groups. The study, conducted over 20 years in Volcanoes National Park, reveals the significance of same-sex relationships in gorilla society. Published in the Royal Society Journal Proceedings B, the findings highlight how female-female connections play a crucial role in shaping the social structure of these great apes. This research, in collaboration with the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, sheds new light on the importance of female interactions among gorillas.
