South Korea legalises tattooing by non-medical professionals
South Korea has legalized tattooing by non-medical professionals after more than 30 years, allowing artists to obtain licenses in the industry previously restricted to medical professionals. The new law follows a campaign by tattoo artists to work without fear of prosecution. Although the change promotes safety and recognition for legal professionals, opposition from the medical community remains as they view tattooing as a medical procedure with health risks. The law, effective in two years, mandates artists to pass exams, complete training, and maintain hygiene standards, with tattoo removals still restricted to medical professionals.
