Nearly 70 schools to close in Australia over fears of asbestos in play sand

Nearly 70 schools in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) will be closed due to asbestos fears in play sand. The closure follows a recall of coloured play sand by Kmart and Target over traces of asbestos found in some samples. Inspections and air testing at the schools are ongoing, with results showing no airborne asbestos so far. This action was taken after warnings regarding asbestos risks in children's sand sold by Officeworks, prompting concerns about wider usage of the product in schools.
