Former Central African Republic football federation head, Patrice-Edouard Ngaïssona, has been convicted of 28 war crimes and crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court (ICC), alongside Alfred Yekatom. They orchestrated attacks against CAR's Muslim population in 2013-14. Ngaïssona was sentenced to 12 years, and Yekatom to 15 years, for crimes including murder and persecution of a religious group amid the country's ongoing violence. French authorities arrested Ngaïssona in 2018, leading to his ICC trial, while Yekatom, an MP with UN sanctions, was extradited and found guilty after firing a gun in parliament.
