'Alligator Alcatraz' immigration centre can stay open, appeals court rules
A federal appeals court has allowed the "Alligator Alcatraz" immigration detention center in Florida to remain open, overturning a previous order to shut it down. The court granted a request to block the closure while a lawsuit continues. The facility, located in the Everglades, had faced opposition from environmental groups and Native American tribes over the lack of federal environmental reviews. The ruling, made by two Trump-appointed judges, has been lauded by the Department of Homeland Security and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
