A pioneering doctor remembers India leader Indira Gandhi's final moments

Dr Sneh Bhargava, the first female director of AIIMS Delhi, shared her experience of treating Indira Gandhi after she was shot by her bodyguards in 1984. In her memoir, "The Woman Who Ran AIIMS," Bhargava recalls the chaotic moments following the assassination attempt, keeping the prime minister's death under wraps until her son, Rajiv Gandhi, was sworn in. Bhargava's remarkable career at AIIMS also included interactions with prominent politicians like Jawaharlal Nehru and Sonia Gandhi and her efforts to prioritize patient care and establish radiology as a crucial part of diagnosis and treatment at the institution.
