Metropolitan Police sergeant Lawrence Hume has been dismissed after making derogatory remarks about a detainee, becoming the sixth officer sacked following a BBC Panorama investigation. The accelerated misconduct hearing found Hume had displayed a "blatant disregard for the protection of the public" and failed to meet professional standards. The investigation revealed officers making disturbing comments and behaving inappropriately, leading to multiple dismissals within the Charing Cross police station. The Metropolitan Police is working to improve standards and culture following the revelations.
