Severe weather forces closure of storm-hit port terminal
Severe weather from Storm Darragh in December 2024 caused damage to Holyhead Port, resulting in partial closure for seven months. After fully reopening in July, the port faced months of disruption, impacting the local community and resulting in an estimated £500m in lost trade. Despite a recent "berthing incident" necessitating the temporary closure of Terminal 5, ferry operations at Holyhead continue according to a revised timetable, ensuring minimal disruption for the 1.5m passengers who pass through the port annually.
