Charities welcome new law banning puppy smuggling

A new law banning puppy smuggling in the UK has been welcomed by charities, aiming to address the illegal import of young animals from other countries. This law, passed after previous failed attempts, raises the age limit for importing puppies and kittens to six months, making it easier to identify underage animals. However, concerns have been raised about potential unintended consequences and limitations on specific breeds like the Entelbucher Mountain Dogs, who fear the law could impact their gene pool diversity. Additionally, the law will also prohibit the import of dogs with cropped ears or docked tails.
