PM wants to change how international law is used in asylum cases
Published: 10/1/2025

PM proposes changes to international law interpretation in asylum cases to prevent unsuccessful asylum seekers from blocking deportation based on fears of worse conditions abroad. While not advocating to dismantle human rights laws, he aims to review article three of the European Convention on Human Rights. This move follows discussions on tightening immigration rules and addressing asylum issues, amid rising mass migration. The proposal seeks to differentiate between genuine asylum seekers and those misusing protections to avoid deportation, amid broader efforts to strengthen the UK's immigration policies.
