'More data than ever, but does it help managers?'
The modern football landscape has been transformed by the extensive use of data, impacting everything from player recruitment to player care and sports science. This data-driven approach has brought innovation but also added complexity for managers, compared to the more streamlined roles of the past. Amidst numerous specialized departments within clubs, including academies, medical units, and recruitment teams, managers may find themselves less empowered than before, with decisions often influenced by these departments. Despite the benefits of these specialized units, the author argues for a return to a model where the head coach holds the final say on team-related matters.
