Minister to soften impact of planned disability benefit cuts
Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall is adjusting welfare reforms to ease the impact of planned disability benefit cuts worth £5bn annually by 2030. The adjustments aim to address concerns from Labour MPs and disability rights groups and include a 13-week transitional period before removing Personal Independence Payment (Pip) for disabled individuals. The revised welfare reform bill will also provide more support for those with severe health conditions, safeguarding them during the transition and offering job opportunities without risking benefit loss. While some Labour MPs remain dissatisfied, the government plans to implement these changes by November 2026 to curb unsustainable spending on health and disability benefits.
