From seabirds to sea turtles: the fatal toll of plastic revealed
Published: 11/17/2025

A recent study analyzing 10,000 marine animal autopsies reveals the fatal toll of plastic on seabirds, marine mammals, and sea turtles. Seabirds face a 90% chance of death after ingesting just 23 pieces of plastic, while marine mammals and sea turtles reach similar danger levels at 29 and 405 pieces, respectively. Researchers emphasize the critical threat that even small amounts of plastic pose to ocean wildlife, underscoring the need for global efforts to protect these animals from plastic pollution.
