Erin rapidly intensifies to category five hurricane
Published: 8/16/2025

Hurricane Erin rapidly intensified into a category five hurricane with winds of 160mph, poised to gain more strength as it moves toward the Caribbean. The storm is expected to pass north of the Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico, potentially causing heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding and mudslides. Although it's not projected to make landfall in the US, Erin is the first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic season and will track northward next week toward the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
