Construction is set to begin on Tata's new electric arc furnace at Port Talbot's steelworks in south Wales, following the closure of traditional blast furnaces in September 2024. The new furnace, expected to be operational by 2027, aims to reduce the site's carbon emissions by up to 90% and create a "cleaner, greener future." The UK government is supporting the project with a £500m grant and plans to finalize its steel strategy with up to £2.5bn in investment, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding jobs and revitalizing the steel industry in the region.
