Date set for challenge over second Gatwick runway
Published: 12/9/2025

Legal challenge over Gatwick Airport's second runway plans, costing £2.2bn, will be heard in January, with campaign groups opposing the Department for Transport's approval decision. The challenge by Communities against Gatwick Noise Emissions (Cagne) and others will start on 20 January 2026 and is supported by concerns over flight emissions evaluation and climate impact assessment. Despite requests for a later hearing date, the High Court judge insisted on the January schedule to expedite the process.
