Child benefit: What is it worth and who can claim it?

Child benefit, a government payment for those raising children under 16 (or under 20 if in education or training), is now accessible to more families since the earnings limit was raised. As of April 2025, child benefit is valued at £26.05 a week for the eldest child and £17.25 for younger children. Claimants should be aware of the High Income Child Benefit Charge, which reduces payments starting at earnings of £60,000 and stops at £80,000.
