Campaigners to get refund after energy bill row

Newcastle's Byker Estate residents are set to receive refunds averaging £646.49 per household after complaints about high fixed monthly heating bills exceeding £200. The Newcastle City Council announced the refunds in response to residents' concerns over the district heat network charging system. The refunds, totaling £56,336 for 160 properties, are a result of lower gas prices, leading to overcharging in fixed bills. This move is seen as a victory for collective action and advocacy by residents and local Green Party councillor Nick Hartley.
