'They went and never came back': Honouring Kenya's forgotten World War soldiers
Published: 11/8/2025

Kenya's forgotten World War soldiers are being honored by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), shedding light on their sacrifices and service in the British army. Thousands of Kenyan soldiers fought in the world wars, with many, like Mutuku Ing'ati, never returning home or being formally commemorated. The CWGC aims to uncover the stories of these forgotten soldiers, including rare colonial military records, and hopes to build memorials to commemorate their service and ensure their memories are not forgotten.
