Sudan militia leader found guilty of war crimes during Darfur conflict, making him the first person tried by the International Criminal Court for atrocities in the region. Ali Kushayb led the Janjaweed militia responsible for mass killings, torture, and sexual violence in Darfur between 2003 and 2004. Survivors recounted testimonies of brutal attacks during Kushayb's trial, where he was convicted on 27 counts of crimes against humanity. Darfur continues to be a battleground in Sudan's civil war, with the RSF, a group linked to the Janjaweed, accused of ethnic cleansing.
