Nepal to scrap 'failed' Mount Everest waste deposit scheme
Nepal scraps failed Mount Everest waste deposit scheme after 11 years, as trash issue persists at higher camps. Climbers were required to bring back 8kg of waste to get their $4,000 deposit back, but most refunds were issued, mainly from lower camps. A new non-refundable clean-up fee will be imposed on climbers to fund checkpoints and monitoring to tackle the estimated 50 tonnes of waste on the mountain.
