How India's 'biggest art deal' buried MF Husain masterpieces in a bank vault

Nearly two dozen rare MF Husain paintings, part of a record-breaking deal in 2004, will be auctioned for the first time in Mumbai. The paintings were seized in 2008 from a businessman over a loan default, locked in bank vaults until now. Titled "MF Husain: An Artist's Vision of the XX Century," the auction at Pundole Art Gallery is estimated to fetch up to $29m. Husain, often called the "Picasso of India," created these vibrant acrylics on canvas to reflect key 20th-century events and social attitudes.
