US group pulls out of deal to buy Daily Telegraph

US investment group RedBird Capital has withdrawn from a £500m deal to buy the Daily and Sunday Telegraph, following governmental concerns over its funding source from Abu Dhabi's IMI group. RedBird's second attempt to purchase the Telegraph was in compliance with new regulations limiting foreign sovereign wealth funds' stakes in newspapers to 15%. However, the government planned to subject the deal to regulatory scrutiny, leading RedBird to pull out of the acquisition.
