UK cases of mosquito-borne virus more than double

The UK has seen a significant rise in cases of the chikungunya virus, a mosquito-borne illness causing acute fever and joint pain, primarily found in Africa and southern Asia. The UK Health Security Agency reports over 70 chikungunya cases in the first half of this year, over double the numbers from last year, mostly travel-related. While the virus isn't usually fatal, it can lead to long-lasting joint pain. Travelers are advised to take precautions such as insect repellent and bed nets to prevent mosquito bites when visiting regions with higher chikungunya risks.
