Turkey earthquake flattens buildings in north-east Balikesir province
A magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit Balikesir province in Turkey, causing the collapse of 16 buildings and injuring 29 people. One person, an 81-year-old woman, tragically died in the town of Sindirgi, the epicenter of the quake. The tremors were felt as far as Istanbul, and Turkey's disaster management agency reported the earthquake occurred at 19:53 local time (16:53 GMT).
