Former Women's Rugby player Sue Day, who never won the World Cup, played a key role in bringing the 2025 Women's Rugby World Cup to England as the chief operating officer of the Rugby Football Union. In 2019, Day and the RFU team successfully convinced World Rugby to award the prestigious tournament to England. Teaming up with the RFU's executive director of women's rugby, Day promised to elevate the tournament by attracting a wider audience and pushing the game forward, aiming to set a new standard for women's rugby.
