Thousands cross Channel in small boats since new migrant deal with France

Since the "one in, one out" agreement between the UK and France, over 2,500 migrants have crossed the Channel in small boats. Amid concerns over people-smuggling gangs, the UK is working on a plan to prevent small boat crossings and return migrants back to France. The scheme, part of a deal between Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Macron, aims to tackle illegal immigration, with the UK set to accept an equal number of eligible asylum seekers. Additionally, the National Crime Agency has taken steps to disrupt smuggling operations.
