Syria holds first elections since Assad, but not in all provinces
Syria holds its first parliamentary elections since the ousting of former President Assad, conducted through "electoral colleges" selecting two-thirds of the 210 seats, with the rest appointed by Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa. Two Kurdish-controlled provinces and a third with prior conflict have had their elections postponed for security reasons. Sharaa pledges justice for past bloodshed and to rebuild Syria, although concerns have been raised over inclusivity and female representation in the electoral process.
