Sales of electric cars hit record high in September

UK electric car sales hit record high in September, with pure battery electric vehicles growing by nearly a third to 72,779 units, per the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Plug-in hybrid cars also saw a rapid sales increase, comprising over half of new car registrations last month. The surge in sales was attributed to carmakers offering discounts, a broader range of models, and the government's grant scheme for electric vehicles. SMMT reports that while most electric cars were purchased for business or fleet use, private buyers have been increasing, with zero-emission vehicles accounting for over 20% of new car registrations this year.
