Red post box sent to Antarctic - on King's orders
Published: 12/14/2025

King Charles III gifts remote British Antarctic Survey station at Rothera with a new Royal Mail post box, replacing their handmade one. The box, featuring the King's cypher, was delivered to enhance staff communication with loved ones amid the extreme conditions of Antarctica. The box was brought by the RRS Sir David Attenborough, marking the first supply drop after the Antarctic winter, emphasizing the importance of postal logistics in connecting staff to the outside world. Maintaining a postal service in the British Antarctic Territory underlines Britain's presence in Antarctica.
