PCs who put spit hood on 90-year-old face hearing

Two serving Metropolitan Police officers and a former officer will face a gross misconduct hearing following an incident involving a 90-year-old woman with dementia who was Tasered, handcuffed, and put in a spit hood. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) found cases of gross misconduct in the officers' treatment of the woman. The investigation was triggered in June 2023 and revealed concerns over the officers' use of force and lack of consideration for the woman's vulnerabilities. The officers have been placed on restricted duties pending the disciplinary hearing.
