Mount Etna erupts as large plumes rise from volcano
Mount Etna has erupted with large plumes of ash and smoke, as seen on the island of Sicily. Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) reported explosions of "increasing intensity" on Monday morning. The eruption, currently on the volcano's south eastern edge, is showing a pyroclastic flow of ash, gas, and rock, but there is no immediate threat to surrounding areas. Mount Etna is one of the world's most active volcanoes, with eruptions being frequent but rarely causing significant damage.
