More than 1,000 people crossed the English Channel in small boats in one day, marking the third time this year the figure has been surpassed. The UK government confirmed the deportation of two men as part of its "one in, one out" scheme to return migrants to France. The plan aims to deter asylum seekers, with only three people returned to France so far under the deal, while next week will see the first asylum seekers arriving in the UK from France as part of the reciprocal aspect of the agreement.
