Kew Gardens' Palm House will close for five years for major makeover
Published: 7/15/2025

Kew Gardens' Palm House will undergo a major £50m renovation, including moving 1,300 plants and replacing 16,000 glass panes in the iconic Victorian-era glasshouse. The five-year makeover starting in 2027 will improve sustainability by reducing emissions and transitioning to heat pumps. Renovations will protect plants like the 250-year-old Encephalartos altensteinii, and the nearby Water Lily House will also be updated. Visitors can still enjoy the Palm House for the next two years before it closes for renovations.
