'I hate chain-mail': The woman racing to recreate the Bayeux Tapestry
Published: 12/27/2025

Artist Mia Hansson is racing to complete her full-size replica of the 70m long Bayeux Tapestry by October 2027, inspired by the upcoming display of the original tapestry at the British Museum. Hansson began this stitch-by-stitch project in 2016 and intends to finish it before the tapestry returns to the Bayeux Museum in Normandy in 2027. The meticulously crafted replica is a faithful recreation of the 11th-century Norman conquest masterpiece, containing historical inaccuracies that Hansson creatively attributes to a fictional "rebel seamstress."
