Hospital trust fined £500k over death of young woman on mental health unit

Hospital trust fined £500k over patient's death due to safety failures North-East London Foundation NHS Trust (NELFT) was fined over £500,000 after the death of 22-year-old Alice Figueiredo at Goodmayes Hospital. Figueiredo took her own life using bin bags from a shared toilet on the mental health unit, despite previous self-harm attempts. The ward manager, Benjamin Aninakwa, received a suspended sentence and community service for health and safety offenses related to the incident.
