Homelessness higher than official figures, research shows
Published: 11/10/2025

Research by the charity Crisis reveals that the number of homeless individuals in England exceeds official government figures, with around 189,000 families and individuals not accounted for in the statistics. Crisis states that key drivers behind this homelessness crisis include a rise in people placed in unsuitable temporary accommodations, like unsafe B&Bs and distant properties. The UK government is planning to invest £1bn in homelessness services in 2025/26 in response to the increasing homelessness rates.
