Hepworth sculpture to go on permanent display in home town after £3.8m raised
The Hepworth Wakefield successfully raised £3.8m to acquire Dame Barbara Hepworth's Sculpture With Colour (Oval Form) Pale Blue And Red, ensuring its public display. The funds were secured through over 2,800 public donations, support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Art Fund, and various trusts. The rare sculpture, created during World War II, will be permanently exhibited in Wakefield, Hepworth's hometown, with plans to lend it to other UK museums and galleries to increase public access. If not acquired, the piece would have been sold privately and potentially left the country.
