Harrods sets aside more than £60m for abuse compensation
Harrods has allocated over £60m to compensate victims of historical abuse allegedly committed by former owner Mohamed Al Fayed, following multiple accusations of rape and sexual assault. The redress scheme aims to support victims who claim abuse while Fayed owned the luxury store between 1985 and 2010. The scheme has attracted over 100 survivors seeking compensation, with awards including general damages of £200,000 and potential total compensation of up to £385,000 per claimant. Harrods' decision to provide compensation has also impacted its financials, resulting in a reported loss of £34.3 million in its latest accounts.
