GB fail to win gold at World Athletics Championships amid worst return for 22 years

Great Britain and Northern Ireland did not secure a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships for the first time in 22 years, ending with five medals, their joint-lowest since 2005. The women's 4x100m relay team narrowly missed out on a podium finish, leaving GB without a relay medal since 2003 and a gold medal since the same year. Despite finishing 21st with no gold medals, the British squad had previously achieved impressive medal hauls at the World Championships and the Olympics, reaching their best return in 40 years at Paris 2024.
