Fraudster jailed for selling fake 'Scottish-grown tea'
A fraudster, Thomas Robinson, has been sentenced to 3.5 years for selling fake "Scottish-grown tea" to luxury hotels and stores between 2014 and 2019. Robinson duped buyers with an elaborate story about the tea being grown in Scotland, while in reality, it was sourced from abroad. He made over £550,000 from the scam, targeting high-end customers like the Balmoral Hotel and the Dorchester in London, while also deceiving aspiring tea growers by selling them plants he claimed were engineered for Scottish conditions but were actually imported from Italy.
