'Fatberg' weighing 100 tonnes removed from sewer
Published: 10/6/2025

A 100-tonne "fatberg" made of wet wipes, fat, oil, and grease has been removed from a sewer in west London by Thames Water. This solid mass, equivalent to the weight of eight double-decker buses, was 10 meters below street level in Feltham and took more than a month to clear. Thames Water emphasizes the importance of avoiding flushing wet wipes to prevent blockages, as they are a significant cause of sewer issues.
