Ex-Netherlands winger Promes extradited to serve prison sentence

Former Ajax winger Quincy Promes has been extradited to the Netherlands to serve a seven-and-a-half year prison sentence for drug trafficking and aggravated assault. Promes, who was arrested in Dubai last week at the request of the Dutch police, was involved in smuggling over a tonne of cocaine into the Netherlands from Belgium in 2020. The 33-year-old, capped 50 times for the Netherlands, denies the charges and has filed appeals for both cases. Promes had prior legal issues, including a conviction for stabbing his cousin in the knee in 2020.
