Ex-French president Sarkozy guilty in election money case
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been found guilty of criminal conspiracy for accepting millions of euros in illicit funds from the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. The court ruled that Sarkozy allowed aides to contact Libyan officials for financial support during his 2007 campaign. Despite the conviction, he was acquitted of related charges, including illegal campaign financing and passive corruption. Sarkozy, who claims the case is politically motivated, is due to be sentenced later. The case is part of multiple legal issues Sarkozy has faced since leaving office in 2012.
