Cervical screening reminders in England to increase to every five years for some women
Published: 6/10/2025

In England, cervical screening invites will now be sent every five years instead of every three for women aged 25-49 with negative test results, as they are at low risk of cervical cancer. The change aims to reduce the frequency of unnecessary screening appointments. Scotland and Wales have already implemented this change, with England set to follow from July 1st. Women are advised to not wait for invitations if they notice any unusual symptoms and to regularly undergo screening between ages 25-64 to detect any cell changes early and reduce the risk of cervical cancer.
