British racing to hold one-day strike in tax protest

British horse racing will strike on 10 September to protest against the Government's proposed tax rise on betting, rearranging four fixtures. The British Horseracing Authority is campaigning against a proposed tax increase on bookmakers, which they claim would damage the industry and put jobs at risk. The strike marks the first time in modern history that the sport has chosen not to race in response to a government proposal.
