Barracks used for housing asylum seekers closes

Napier Barracks in Kent, a former military site used to house asylum seekers, has closed due to criticism over poor living conditions and a large Covid outbreak. The site will be returned to the Ministry of Defence and then transferred to a housing developer. The Home Office has decided to close all asylum hotels, with plans for potential use of barracks in Crowborough and Inverness. Despite housing over 300 asylum seekers at its peak, Napier Barracks closed with fewer than 100 residents.
