A third of Pacific island nation applies for Australian climate change visa
More than a third of Tuvalu citizens have applied for a world-first climate visa that allows permanent migration to Australia, reflecting massive interest in the program. The visa, aimed at addressing climate-related displacement, only awards 280 visas to Tuvalu citizens annually through a random ballot. The Pacific Engagement visa offers indefinite residency in Australia with various benefits, including healthcare access, study opportunities, and childcare subsidies. The initiative is part of the Australia-Tuvalu Falepili Union, responding to Tuvalu's vulnerability to climate change.
